The SmartWay program is a voluntary partnership between the freight industry and the EPA to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, improve fuel efficiency, and strengthen the freight sector. The goals of the SmartWay program are to reduce the impact of freight transport on the environment. The ultimate goal of the program is to reduce between 3.3 and 6.6 billion gallons of diesel fuel per year from trucks and rail delivering freight in order to achieve projected savings of 150 million barrels of fuel per year by 2012. Freedom partners with carriers that are in the SmartWay program. Therefore, demonstrating we are practicing fuel saving strategies and staying on the fore-front of emerging technologies.
